Characteristic findings in girls with recurrent cysts is the waxing and waning course of their feminisation. Granulosa cell tumours of the ovary are rare in childhood but may lead to a palpable tumour that secretes oestrogen and causes incomplete sexual precocity. Oestrogen-secreting adrenal neoplasms may less frequently cause this condition. Girls can also be exposed to oestrogens through ingestion of their mother's oral contraception or other preparations.
